She and the younger of her two elder sisters were both married to a wealthy lord, while her mother and eldest sister also lived with them. The elder wife killed the lord, and the four agree to cover up the crime. Ni An, knowing her elder sister is pregnant, admits to killing the lord, even though it was her sister that actually did it. She is forcibly given a snake tattoo to represent what she is to the lord's house prior to her execution.
