Katherine Pulaski

Search for 'Katherine Pulaski' on Amazon

Katherine Pulaski was briefly the Chief Medical Officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D, while Beverly Crusher was the temporary head of Starfleet Medical.

In comics, she was shown to have a daughter, Jackie, who had become a part of the Maquis. Jackie created a virus that spread through the Badlands, and Pulaski temporarily served aboard DS9 while she worked on a way to counteract her daughter's biological weapon.

Because Starfleet believed that Katherine was in league with her daughter, she had to stand trial to determine the level of her culpability in the crime. The results of that trial were never shown, but Sisko indicated he thought "things would go in her favor".

At right is a scene depicting the emotional crux of the Jackie/Katherine story line: Katherine cradles Jackie on her lap as the younger Pulaski falls victim to the very plague she helped create.

The scene shows a completely different side to Katherine Pulaski than we see in the television show. The normally stern, professional veneer is stripped bare; in its place is a Pulaski who has so completely lost touch with her career that she forgets to protect herself in any way from the plague her daughter is obviously carrying.
