Real Name:
Search for 'Dengar' on Amazon

Human bounty hunter who at various points seemed to work for both the Rebels and the Empire. Despite having disappointed Vader on an earlier job, he was one of the ones charged with finding Han Solo during Episode V.

In comics, he was later seen to have fully pulled back from his association with Imperial interests, and instead dedicated himself to the loyalty of his friends.

Chief among these friendships was the one forged with Boba Fett. Dark Horse makes Dengar the one that helps pull a nearly-dead Fett from the Sarlaac pit, thus allowing Fett to live on. Their friendship is later confirmed when Fett shows up at Dengar's wedding as his best man.

Dengar's appearance speaks volumes about his history. He used to be a stormtrooper, but, as a Corellian, obviously did not serve in the Clone Wars. Thus his costume does appear to be a personalized version of stormtrooper armor. The wrapping around his head both emulates a stormtrooper helmet and obscures the cybernetic implants that removed many emotions from him. Still, one emotion he always retained was a hatred of Han Solo. It was Solo who, during a swoop bike race, had caused the accident leading to the surgery that turned him into a Cyborg.

His emotions, or lack thereof, were a powerful motivator for the character. He was, in some ways, an analogue of Darth Vader. With most of his compassion and "good" emotions gone, he was a useful tool of the Empire after his accident. He was, in fact, an assassin for some time, until the Empire ordered him to kill the Holy Children of Asrat. At this point, he broke with the Empire, and became a bounty hunter. Still, he preferred to kill, rather than bring in live, bounties.

Eventually, he came into contact with a woman named Manaroo who could share her mind telepathically, and this further stirred his humanity. As he came to love her, and eventually rescue her from Jabba's Palace (where she was imprisoned during the events of Return of the Jedi), he gradually gained a more balanced psyche.
