They went into stasis when it was learned that the planet would be struck by a celestial body: he remained on watch until shortly before impact, to determine how long they would have to wait before revival, then entered stasis himself; however when he awoke it was to find he had slept not for a mere twenty years but for more than a hundred thousand. When Krypton exploded not long after, the mountain inside which his laboratory was located was flung into space. He survived on the radiation it emitted after it was transformed into kryptonite.
