Grim (Gay) Ghost
Real Name: Keith Everet
Search for 'Grim (Gay) Ghost' on Amazon

Originally called the "Gay" Ghost, the Grim Ghost might be seen as an early prototype for Deadman, although he can not only inhabit others' bodies, but re-animate the dead. Indeed, though he is the ghost of Keith Everet, he assumes the identity, body, and girlfriend of Charles Collins.

At the dawn of the 18th century, the British Earl, Keith Everet, is murdered. Noting the injustice of his death, he is allowed to return to Earth if he will avenge his death by fighting evil. HIs condition to the bargain is that he must be allowed to meet his girlfriend one more time before embarking on his new life. Unfortunately, when he comes back to Earth, his girlfriend has died, so he is stuck in place, apparently doomed to merely haunt his hereditary castle.

Over two centuries later, one of his girlfriend's descendants, named Deborah Wallace after her long-dead ancestor, arrives at the castle. This is apparently enough to satisfy Everet's conditions, and he at last embarks upon his destiny. She and her companion, Charles Collins, are then engaged in a fight with Nazi spies, and Everet inhabits Collins' body to assist. Unbeknownst to Wallace, Collins actually dies in this effort, but Everet reanimates the body and assumes Collins' identity. After defeating the Nazis, he returns with her to America to embark on further adventures.

When consigned to Limbo, he tells Buddy Baker he does not want to be brought out because of the new connotation of "gay."
