Bib Fortuna

Search for 'Bib Fortuna' on Amazon

Fortuna is first seen as Jabba the Hutt's Twi'ilek lieutenant during the opening scenes of Return of the Jedi. There are some comics, like the film adaptation, which show us a Fortuna looking very much like his film counterpart. And while some fans speculate that he logically would have been onboard Jabba's pleasurecraft that gets destroyed by the Rebels out in the Dune Sea, the comics and Expanded Universe in general have suggested otherwise.

They speculate that in face he was back at Jabba's Palace, "minding the store".

Consequently he would have been a logical choice to control the wealth that Jabba left behind.

Only, things don't go that smoothly for the Bibster.

As he's contemplating becoming the Big Boss, the B'omarr Monks living underneath the Palace decide upon a course of salvation for the slimy Twi'ilek. Following their ritual of cleansing, they remove Bib's brain and place it into a spider robot (as seen in the background of Bib's first appearance in Episode VI). This, the good Monks think, will divorce Bib from his rampant materialism.

Unfortunately, this only creates a power vacuum—one that Bib's cousin, Firith Olan, is only too happy to fill. For a brief time, Firith comes into a position of power within the the organization that Jabba built.

Despite help from the now-robot-dwelling Bib, though, Firith makes a mess of things and ends up getting wounded in a shot-out between Rogue Squadron and Marl Semtin.

At this point, Bib quickly takes advantage of his cousin's weakened condition. He convinces the Monks to "switch brains" with his cousin.

The result is that Bib ends up inhabiting Firith's body and Firith gets the life of a spider droid. Though now in a different body, Bib is once again "wholly Twi'lek" and looking to do something with what remains of Jabba's organization.
