Ikthalon is an ice like demon from the realm known as Boreas, which he rules over. He is able to create ice and freezing winds and his powers are heightened when in his own realm. While in Boreas, he, his legion and his creations are immune to flame, including flame of mystical or supernatural nature, such as the hellfire that Hellstorm is able to create. Ikthalon, despite being made of an ice like substance, is still and demon and therefore can act in such a way, for example, hiding within the walls of a building or passing through solid floors. He is able to possess humans and take control of their wills.
Apparently Ikthalon can only travel out of his own realm when summoned. He, as well as his Legion, can be contained by magical wards and spells (such as the ankh symbol being displayed on the ground in front of a doorway). On Earth, Ikthalon is vulnerable to flame, natural and supernatural, that in his own dimension otherwise wouldn't have an effect on him.
Although Ikthalon's past has never been fully revealed, Hellstorm knew that he had been active on Earth during medieval times, and one of his legion mentioned (after returning to Earth), that a great deal of time had passed since they last ruled over man.
Ikthalon came into conflict with Daimon Hellstrom after being summoned by a faculty member at Gateway University. The faculty member, who was never named, was apparently unhappy with modern culture and how it was progressing. Hellstrom was contacted by Dr. Katherine Reynolds to come to the University and perform an exorcism on the building to rid it of whatever was possessing it.
Hellstrom was first attacked by a minion of Ikthalon and brought to Boreas, where he was held captive by Ikthalon, his powers useless in the ice dimension. Ikthalon and his legion then entered Earth through the university as Katherine decided to investigate. As the ice demons tried to make their way from the university, Katherine grabbed Hellstrom's Satanic Trident, which caused a psychic connection to Hellstrom on which he was able to travel back to Earth. Blasting Ikthalon with the power from his trident, he was seemingly destroyed.
Even though Ikthalon has not been seen since his defeat at the hands of Hellstorm, he has been mentioned or invoked on more than one occasion since.
