Simp O'Dill was a kind of "everyman", a middle aged guy who went from job to job without gaining any real traction anywhere. As such, he was able to comment upon a wide variety of different lives, from zookeeper, to teacher, to soldier. He wasn't drawn in any single, iconic style — sometimes he'd have thick glasses, sometimes not, sometimes he'd have a widow's peak, sometimes not — but to the extent that there was consistency, it was that he looked rather like a thin version of Wimpy from the Popeye comics.
Principally a newspaper strip character, he sometimes appeared as a backup strip in comic books of the 1930s-1940s. It is unclear, at present, whether any comic books have original Simp O'Dill stories.
