Gorm (R.E. Howard)

Search for 'Gorm (R.E. Howard)' on Amazon

Bio:
Gorm was a fierce warrior of the Pict tribe. During a savage battle with another tribe that was passing through their land, Gorm was struck on the head by the shield of Niord. A blow that would have killed any other man, merely wounded Gorm. Letting Gorm live out of respect, Niord let him recover in his tribe's camp.

Gorm was there long enough to pick up some of the language and tell Niord and his people of the legends of his people, and the dangers of their land, including the tale of Satha, The Great Serpent of which Gorm's people were terrified of.

Becoming allies, Gorm returned to his tribes, and created peace between his tribe and Norid's.

Gorm and Niord became fast friends, hunting together. On one of their trips, they came across a valley, and terrified, Gorm would not enter, telling Niord the tale of his ancestors that inhabited the land. Suddenly, one day, they simply vanished, and his people had never stepped foot into the valley again.

On their way back, Gorm and Niord were attacked by a longtooth, an ancestor of the tiger. Niord was able to slay the creature, but was severely wounded. During his recovery, most of Niord's tribe went to make the valley that Gorm had spoken of, their home.

Gorm had been hunting in the woods around the valley when he heard the screams and cries of the tribe. Frightened, he hid. It was days later when Niord went to the valley to see his tribe, only to find them slaughtered. He was about to follow the trail when Gorm came out from hiding and stopped him, telling him of what happened.

Along with Gorm, Niord planned revenge on whatever slew his tribe. He had Gorm lead him to the land of Satha, The Great Serpent. Gorm refused to follow Niord into the land. Niord entered the land, and was able to slay Satha, coating his arrows in the deadly venom of the great snake.

Niord then went back to the valley where his people were slaughtered. Gorm was again refused to follow, being too terrified to go along.

Niord entered the valley, and after a fierce battle with the creature that killed his people, of which Niord could only refer to as The Worm, Niord lay dying. Gorm, witnessing the fight, came to Niord's side. During his last breaths, Niord asked Gorm to relay the tale to all the villages, all the tribes, so that all would know that not man, nor beast, nor devil, would prey in safety upon the people of Asgard. Gorm was at Niord's side for his final breath.
