Wedge Antilles

Search for 'Wedge Antilles' on Amazon

Outside the Star Wars Expanded Universe, Wedge Antilles is known best to those who love movie trivia. First, there's the family connections. He was played by the uncle of Ewan McGregor. Then there's the curiosity of the character himself. He was the only "speaking extra" to have a role in the whole of the Original Trilogy. He's there in the attack on both Death Stars and Hoth.

But it's really in the Expanded Universe where the character shines. Close observers of the films note Wedge's progression through the ranks across the films and have postulated that there must be something special about the character if he could not only survive against the Empire, but, apparently, thrive.

As a result, he is the occasional lead in a few Star Wars comic books. As a rule of thumb, if a comic book features the use of the Rogue Squadron, you can bet that Wedge is probably there in the fight. Had Luke concentrated on his career as a fly boy, he probably would've ended up leading the Rogues for years. Since he decided to "go Jedi", though, Luke essentially allowed Wedge to become the standout hero of the Rebellion's fleet.

Wedge somewhat secretly married CorSec investigator, Iella Wessiri. By the time of Luke's wedding to Mara Jade, he was already the proud father of two girls—something that came as a bit of a surprise to other guests as Luke and Mara's wedding.

Wedge and Iella retired to Corellia, but would come out of retirement as necessary for the good of the Republic.

Had the childhood name, "Veggies".
