The original name given to Clark Kent's Earth mother. From the late 30s to the early 50s, there was some variance in her name, including one version in which she was "Sarah". However, she was most consistently Mary, and after the multiverse opened for business in the 1960s, the Earth 2 Ma Kent was always named, "Mary".What's less clear, as is generally the case with DC characters, is whether a particular story you may be reading is using an Earth 1 or Earth 2 character. Since the mother Kent is often referred to simply as "Ma" or, in narrative boxes, "Ma Kent", it can be very difficult to tell in 1950s comics whether you're dealing with "Mary" or "Martha" Kent. As a general rule of thumb, though, the presence of Superboy in any issue immediately means that the mother Kent must be Martha, as there was no Earth 2 Superboy. Mary's appearances are extremely limited after 1960, and usually much easier to differentiate from Martha's, because of clear marking as "an Earth 2 story".
