Powers: Ion is nearly omnipotent. His power is only limited by Kyle Rayner's will, which has been enhanced to godlike levels.
Bio: Initially, Kyle Rayner became Ion after absorbing massive amounts of energy that manifested itself in the sun from when Parallax restarted it during Final Night. After absorbing this power, he found himself with omnipotent levels of power, surpassing even that of Superman's. He could be in several places at the same time, instigate plant fertility in desolate areas, had greater access to his brain and a variety of other abilities. He returned John Stewart's ability to walk, as well as Jade's special powers by imbuing her with some of his power.
He controlled this energy for several days, but after being confronted by Spectre (formerly Parallax/Hal Jordan) about the right and wrong thing to do with his powers, Kyle decided to recraft Oa into a lush planet again and gave up the remainder of his power restarting the central battery and creating new (childlike) Guardians.
During Infinite Crisis, Kyle becomes Ion once again after Jade was killed by energy resonating from two mysterious hands pulling apart space. Although Jade's physical body was dead, she was being kept alive barely by the energy the energy of Kyle's ring. After saying her goodbyes, her body transformed into pure energy and was reabsorbed by Kyle who in turn became Ion once more (Rann-Thanagar War: Infinite Crisis Special).
It was then revealed that the Guardians have planned for a Green Lantern to evolve into something greater. Kyle Rayner is the fruition of that plan and now holds the title of "Torchbearer" for the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps. If an event should occur that would wipe out the Guardians or the Corps, the Torchbearer has the power to resurrect them.
