Mel
Real Name: Melanie Bush
Search for 'Mel' on Amazon

Bio:
Melanie Bush was a computer programmer. Her televised history with the Doctor is probably the most complicated and paradoxical of any of the companions. Due to the Sixth Doctor's trial before the Inquisitor, he was shown evidence of traveling with Mel before he had actually met her. She later attended the trial as a witness, whereupon she physically met the Sixth Doctor before she had begun her travels with him. In the very next televised story, the Sixth Doctor had regenerated into the Seventh, foreclosing any opportunity to further explore the paradoxical nature of their relationship.

It was apparently so confusing that the writers of Doctor Who comics avoided her almost entirely. Instead of including Mel in the pages of DWM, the comic writers of the Seventh Doctor's run continued on with Frobisher for a bit and then wrote a series of brief companions for the Seventh Doctor. It was not until Ace was well established as the Seventh Doctor's companion that the strip returned to using a televised companion.

Only much later in the 1990s did Mel make her first, and effectively only, appearance.
